Statement

My work is situated in the area of aesthetics where colour, composition and emotion
become a subconscious portrayal of me and a reflection for the viewer.

Meditation holds me together in my life and in my painting. My paintings deal with consciousness
on various levels; they are a response to my awakening awareness as a result of meditation.
The figures are symbolic of a sleeping consciousness; peace, bliss, innocence, love, are just a
few of our original qualities which are being awoken in our subconscious.
Each series of paintings capture emotions and atmosphere, the essence of our inner being.

I work using a series of photo montages and a grid system as a starting point, a souvenir from my time as an architectural technician in the early '80's. My strengths are grounded in a traditional training, developing observational skills with regular life classes, which I expand during the painting process.
